I hate the waft of anti-bacterial wash and hand sanitiser, and the stupid outfits all the patients have to wear. And I hate the droning lull of the machines, and the blood suffocating in their plastic bags as the fluid drains through the hundreds of tubes into swollen arms and hands. I hate the silent corridors, and the stories your mind makes up as you walk past each patient’s room. I hate the empty, soundless rooms during visiting hours even more that than. I hate the frail bodies that clutch onto walking frames for support, and the sense of darkness, and illness that loom behind each corner, and seeing people in their weakest and most vulnerable state. I just really hate hospitals.
